Choose a section of fresh growing wood; at least 30cm from ground with no disease above or below.

Using a knife parallel to the trunk, carefully scrape away the dry bark layers until you see the last thin layer. Do NOT cut into the wood or the bark cambium.

Grab screw and select appropriate drill bit size to allow snug and tight install.

Drill horizontally to just the depth of the wide thread on the screw. Hole should be measured such that when dendrometer is hung on screw, the piston sits on the cleared wood.

Install mounting screw just to end of wide thread. Ensure firm.

Spin nut towards trunk until it is firm against bark. Unscrew wing nut to mount dendrometer.

Screw in dendrometer plunger to approx 2cm-4cm out from housing. Hang on mount in a position so that it rests horizontally against the cleared wood surface and is between the washers.

Tighten all screws. Next ensure that the wires are looped over screw mount and under dendrometer, and affix with cable tie to ensure cables are locked in place.
