Navel infection

Navel infections will show some or all of the following signs:
Swollen or thickened navel (sometimes hot and moist)
Sometimes painful
A pus discharge
Temperature above 39.5
Lethargic with depressed appetite

Step 2 of 5Treatment for basic abscesses involves 5-7 days treatment with:
Penicillin
Amoxicillin
Tetracyclines
Always give non steroidals as well such as meloxicam.
If abscess is present burst or lance it.
ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR VETERINARIAN

Step 3 of 5If there is no improvement in 3 days post treatment it is probable the liver and internal organs are affected and treatment prognosis is poor.

Navel infection can spread to become septic arthritis.
If this occurs treatment prognosis is poor.
