Preparation

  • A forklift with long tynes

Move a handrail stillage close to the stage.

<h1>Roles (Two Person Job)</h1><p></p><p>Installing handrails is a <strong>two person job</strong>.</p><p></p><ul><li><p>One on Floor</p></li><li><p>One on Stage</p></li></ul><p>The floor person unloads the handrail, positions it and pins it in place</p><p></p><p>The stage person will lift and stabilise the handrail during installation.</p><p></p><p></p><p><strong>Important: NEVER install the handrail by yourself.</strong></p>

  • One on Floor

  • One on Stage

The floor person unloads the handrail, positions it and pins it in place

The stage person will lift and stabilise the handrail during installation.

<h1>Pro Tip: Handrail Selection</h1><p></p><p>Prior to using a handrail, ensure there is a <strong>hitch pin and r-clip attached</strong> to both sides.</p><p></p><p>If one or both are <strong>missing</strong>, put the handrail to the side and notify your supervisor.</p>

Pick Up Handrail

  • Lift and remove handrail from stillage

  • Flip it over

Rough Placement

  • Carry the handrail to the stage

  • Pass it to the person on the stage so they can help lift it up

  • Roughly line up the pin holes on the handrail with the pin holes on the stage

Fine Placement

Important: The handrail is still unsecured and can fall. Ensure the person on stage is holding the weight of the handrail.

Slide the handrail so that the pin holes on the handrail and stage line up.

Note: If the handrail is difficult to slide you can tap it with a mallet.

Insert the Hitch Pins

Important: The handrail is still unsecured and can fall. Ensure the person on stage is holding the weight of the handrail.

Insert both hitch pins by sliding them through the holes.

Note: If the pin is stuck, you may use a mallet to lightly hammer the pin in.

Insert the R-Clips

Duck underneath the stage and insert both R-Clips to lock the hitch pin in place.
