Welcome to Germain Wines. Named after early explorer Hugh Germain who wandered around Old Hobart Town naming the areas he passed from The Bible and Arabian Nights. Around Bagdad you’ll find places like Jericho and The Jordon River to name a few.

At Germain Wines we focus on pinot noir as our speciality wine grown on the side of a hill just below the bush line.

Here’s a documentation of the year as we move through the seasons at Germain Wines and what’s involved in getting our first class wine to you!
During October onwards we’re busy watering, controlling mildew with limited spraying and keeping the grass under control between the vines!
And we’re training the vines to grow up between the wires so the grapes get enough sunlight later on. We’re also removing excess foliage that doesn’t have flowers on.

As the grapes slowly start to ripen in the early autumn they start to change colour quickly. This doesn’t mean they taste nice but we do need to monitor daily to decide when to put nets on for birds.
And then the day comes. The tractor comes out and bird nets are stretched out over the vines to keep the birds at bay!

A big days work!

We’re blessed in Tassie with perfect autumns. Long sunny days and cool nights to slowly ripen grapes with complexity.
We constantly monitor sugar levels in the grapes an continually consult with our wine maker to ensure we get to this point!
Ideal grapes ready to pick, to produce another brilliant full of depth Pinot😀.
Off come the nets and the long, slow job of hand picking begins!
We only pick the best and any damaged fruit is left behind for the birds😬

And we’re done 🍷🍷🍷
Now it’s up to our magician wine maker to work his magic!
