Locate the tools required for jointing a Hygenius solid surface worktop:

1. 3 x clamps

2. Orbital sander

3. Solid surface glue gun

4. Hot melt glue gun and glue

5. Hammer

6. Chisel

Locate the following sanding disc pads for orbital rotating sander:

• P100

• P180

• P220

• P320

• P500 (polishing pad)

Prepare tools for surface cleaning:

1. Industrial Methylated Spirit (IMS)

2. White tissue (coloured tissues must NOT be used)

Clean up surfaces using a P320 grit sanding discus. Sand up the join, 200mm each side.

This step is very important to ensure good result. Clean the dust off using IMS and push panels together to ensure the join is tight. In the situation where a join does not consistently touch, this should be fixed using a sanding block.

Using the hot melt glue, bond the timber blocks to the surface approx 50mm from the join. Ensure blocks are set parrell to each other to ensure a tight joint. We recommend using 6 x blocks and 3 x clamps for a 600mm top.

Leave the glue to set for approx 5 minutes.

Ensure the hot glue is kept on until the step 10 has been completed in case any wooden blocks lose adhesion when adding pressure from clamps. If this happens, re-apply the hot glue to the other side of the wooden block and stick back on worktop in the correct position.

Now check the clamps function correctly. Thoroughly clean the join again with a new piece of white tissue. Discard the last tissue used. Repeat this cleaning process twice to ensure its completely clean.

Make sure you have the correct glue colour to match the sheets. Discard 40mm of Corian glue and glue the join as shown. Pull the join together and clamp.

Allow 1hr for glue to set.

Using a sharp, flat chisel, remove the blocks from the surface.

You are now going to systematically sand the surface using the different grades of sand paper starting at P100, then to P180, P220 then finally a P320.

Ensure the extraction on your M rated hoover is working correctly and that the holes on the sandpaper and on the hoover line up.

To ensure shape is maintained, sand the rear cove upstand using a rolled up P100 sanding disc to remove any bumps.

Now sand the top of the upstand. All scenarios are different so if tight to the wall, sand by hand.

Polish the surface using a P500 soft pad to achieve the finished result onsite.

The final step is to clean the worktop using a microfibre cloth before handing over to the client.
