CHECK PPE – Confirm correct PPE is worn.
SCAN AREA – Check for traffic, uneven ground, and other hazards.
CONFIRM VEHICLE – Ensure vehicle is parked and secure.
USE SAFE SIDE – Approach from the kerb side, away from live traffic.
Entering & Exiting the Truck:
FACE THE TRUCK – Always face the steps when climbing up or down.
GET A FIRM GRIP – Use the handrails, or other fixed objects on the platform.
MAINTAIN 3-POINTS OF CONTACT – At all times. [2 feet + 1 hand or 2 hands + 1 foot]
NEVER JUMP – Always step down carefully.
Stepping Onto the Platform:
CHECK IT – Look first. Check the platform for slip or trip hazards.
CLEAR IT – Ensure your path and the platform are clear of people and equipment.
CLIMB IT – Use steps and handrails to maintain 3-points of contact.
Exiting Any Vehicle or Platform:
LOOK DOWN FIRST – Check your landing spot is solid, level, and clear.
CHECK AROUND – Look for traffic, plant, and other people.
CLIMB DOWN SAFELY – Take your time and use 3-points of contact.
STEP, DON'T JUMP – Plant your foot firmly on the ground and ensure it is firm and level. [THIS IS WHERE ALOT OF INJURIES OCCUR]
Exiting and Leaving Truck Platform:
PAUSE AFTER EXITING – Stop and get your bearings.
SCAN YOUR PATH – Look ahead for trip hazards, plant, and traffic.
STICK TO WALKWAYS – Use designated safe routes.
HEADS UP, EYES OPEN – Continuously scan and listen as you walk.
