Visual Inspection of Wheel Nuts
Check the end of the wheel nut or stud:
LHT nuts are often stamped with “L” or an arrow pointing anti-clockwise.
RHT nuts are stamped with “R” or an arrow pointing clockwise.

Vehicle Side
On some commercial vehicles with a stud sleeve system:
Left-hand side of the vehicle → Left-hand thread
Right-hand side of the vehicle → Right-hand thread
This design prevents nuts from loosening while the wheel is rotating forward.

Thread Direction Test
Place a wheel brace or socket on the nut and apply light pressure:
If turning anti-clockwise loosens, it is Right-hand thread (RHT).
If turning clockwise loosens, it is Left-hand thread (LHT).
Do not force. If the resistance feels wrong re-check markings and consult service manager.
Thank you for viewing these instructions on how to identify the thread direction. You should now have a greater understanding on this topic.
