Yield Fodder Beet

Step 1 of 8Beet is planted in rows 0.5m apart. So every 2m of a row is equivalent of one square meter.

Measure 2m along a row. Remove Bulbs.

Remove leaf and weigh.

Step 4 of 8Do 5 different rows of 2m and get an average weight.

Take 2 beet home and cut into 1cm cubes. Weigh out 100g worth.

Put glass of water on a plate with the 100g of beet.

Step 7 of 8Microwave and weigh repeatedly 2 minutes at a time until the weight stops decreasing. This is the dry weight.

Step 8 of 8Use this calculation: Dry weight/ wet weight * average weight for 2m row * 10000 eg 16g/100g * 20kg * 10000 = 32000g That is 32T DM of beet per Ha plus leaf.
