Do a minimum 4 weeks before calving. But can be up to 16 weeks before as long as the heifers are well grown.

You should do one teat at a time.

Clean the teats like this by dragging a clean part of the teat wipe across the teat end multiple times.

Don’t scrub backwards and forwards like this. It just smears whatever is on the teat end and fails to disinfect it.

You may need to rub scab off the end of the teat canal.

Squeeze the teat to expel the serum that is the precursor of milk ( note in some animals this may appear milk like WATCH FOR MASTITIS and treat with mamyzin if found ). This will make inserting the tube much easier into the canal.

Pinch the top of the teat so that the seal won’t go past them and remain in the teat canal.

Step 9 of 10

I prefer to use Cepralock sealant as the short nozzle ensures you only just insert the tip and makes placement of the sealant easier. There is also no air in the tube to deal with.

Only fill the teat canal. More often and not you’ll only use part of the tube of sealant.
