Overview
This procedure is to eliminate any costly expenses, and potentially confrontational and awkward discussions with a customer as a result of their wheel studs snapping or being damaged while their vehicle is being worked on at any Gas & Tyre Ltd branch.
Contact Service Manager
If a wheel nut is found to be too tight to remove using the normal required force with the power bar, this should be communicated to the Service Manager before any further action is taken
Contact Branch Manager
The Workshop Manager is to assess the situation and if the nut is deemed to be unable to be removed with out breaking the wheel stud, he/she must communicate this to the Branch Manager before any further action is taken
Contact the Customer
The Branch Manager must then contact the customer to explain the situation that more than likely if we attempt to remove the wheel nut we will snap the stud. It must be indicated to the customer that any associated costs to repair this snapped stud would fall on that customer.
Unable to Contact Customer
If the customer is unable to be contacted for some reason, the vehicle needs to be put back to how it was prior to it coming in to the workshop (e.g. any tyres removed ready for replacement needs to be fitted back to original) and parked until the customer has made contact and the Branch Manager has explained the situation.
Cease Work
Should the customer raise concern that he/she does not want us to continue to remove the wheel nut and risk breaking the stud, ALL work on that vehicle must cease immediately and Gas & Tyre Ltd will take no responsibility for any work done on that vehicle.
Agreement
Should the customer agree for us to continue to remove the wheel nut, Gas & Tyre Ltd take no responsibility for any repairs required as a result of removing the wheel nut and snapping any studs.
Summary
A brief summary of our above actions needs to be included on the customers invoice in the 'Notes' field on the invoice template
