Container Inspection
Inspect the container interior and exterior for damages before loading
Sweep container floor clean to remove any loose debris, dirt or other contamination
Check floor for oil or liquid stains
Note
Cover any identified affected areas with additional rubber mats to prevent load movement and contamination of paper
Strap & Rubber Mat Setup
The process to setup rubber mats under each reel and position strap to allow the restraining of pyramid stacked reels together:
Equipment Required For Each Pyramid Stack:
32mm woven strap (LC 2300kg)
32mm metal non-slip buckle
150mm x 800mm x 4mm Rubber mat
A pre-marked wooden measuring stick can be used to ensure correct positioning of equipment.
The stick should include clearly marked red indicators for:
1st Rubber placement (x2) - 400mm
2nd Rubber placement (x2) - 2270mm
Strap placement (9mtrs) - 2370mm
Operators simply align the stick against the container wall or previously loaded reels to quickly locate correct positions.
Note
Taping the strap beside the rubber can help by holding strap in place while loading paper reels.
Loading Paper Reels (Pyramid Configuration)
Paper reels must be loaded using either:
Forklift prong attachment, or
Extended forklift tynes
Consider Container Fall
Check if the container leans slightly.
If the container falls to the left, load the left reel first.
This prevents the reel rolling toward the centre.
Load Bottom Reels
Align the forklift square with the container entrance.
Lift the reel using:
Reel prong attachment, or
Forklift tynes
Drive slowly into the container.
Place the reel so it sits:
Centered on the rubber strips
Square to the container walls
Load the second reel beside the first.
Bottom reels must be positioned:
Side-by-side
Hard up against the container front wall or previously loaded reels
Directly on the rubber strips
Pink strap must move freely under paper reels
Load Top Reel
Lift the third reel using the same attachment.
Raise the reel above the two bottom reels.
Slowly lower it into position.
The top reel must:
Sit centred in the pyramid
Touch both bottom reels evenly
Be stable before removing the forklift
There must be no longitudinal gaps between reels.
Strap & Buckle Process
Unhook strap from first wall.
Throw strap over top reel in pyramid.
Unhook strap from opposite wall.
Bring strap ends together.
Buckle Threading
Hold the buckle so the legs face upward.
Form a small loop at the end of the strap.
Feed the loop up through the centre of the buckle from underneath.
Pull the loop over one of the buckle legs and pull the strap through.
Create another loop in the tail end of the strap and insert it through the centre of the buckle from underneath.
Thread the loop over the buckle leg and pull through.
Pull the tail end of the strap to remove remaining slack.
Note
Ensure the strap is sitting correctly over the pyramid stack and there is no slack under the load.
Battery Powered Tensioner
Feed and Align Straps
Feed the lower strap beneath the gripper foot of the tensioning tool.
Feed the upper strap into the windlass slot of the tool.
Ensure both straps are straight and aligned before tensioning.
Tensioning Operation
Press and hold trigger.
The tool will automatically tension the strap.
The tool will stop at the preset tension setting.
Final Tightening
If required, apply a few short trigger presses to remove remaining slack and tighten the strap further.
Reminder
Ensure the strap is sitting correctly over the pyramid stack, that there is no slack under the load, and that the tensioner cannot tighten the strap any further.
Vertical Loaded Reel
After loading four pyramid stacks of reels inside the container the final reel is loaded vertical.
Pre-set the strap to the first floor lug before loading the final pyramid stack, ensuring 12 m of webbing is evenly pulled through.
Load final reel vertically at door end on 3 rubber mats.
Pass strap around reel and through roof lug in front of reel.
Thread buckle and tension with battery tensioner until reel is pulled tight into pyramid stacks (within 150 mm of door).
