Hi everyone, welcome to GuruTex. My name is Lucas and today we're going to talk about hemp.

Hemp is a bass fiber, which means it comes from the stem of the plant, in the same way linen does.

There are many products that have hemp in them, like shoes, t-shirts, bags, cords, ropes, makeup, fuel and oil.

Hemp and linen are very similar, so they are processed almost in the same way.

Retting is a process by which we can extract the fiber from the plant, and this can be done with steam or enzyme.

In general, hemp is a very sustainable fiber. It doesn't require a lot of water or pesticides and herbicides.

It also has a great yield. This means that in the same plot of land, you can grow 250% more hemp than cotton and 600% more hemp than linen.

Today, most of the hemp comes from China and the Philippines, but it can also be found in Chile, Canada, Russia, Poland, France and India.

It is important to mention that marijuana and hemp look similar, however, they are as related as a lemon would to an orange, so not very related.

Hemp has very, very little THC, so even if you tried smoking it, you could not get high from it.

It is worth mentioning that between 1910 and 1920, almost one million Mexicans immigrated into the U.

S., seeking refuge from the Mexican Revolution. Through propaganda and misinformation, Mexicans were associated to marijuana, which generated an anti-Mexican sentiment within the American community.

By 1937, many laws were passed and marijuana was completely banned, and by association, hemp plantations also decreased.

Fortunately, in 2018, hemp-derived products were federally legalized.

So now you can find it in makeup, in oil, fuel, textiles, in so many products.

Don't forget that hemp is a super sustainable fiber. It requires no pesticides or herbicides, very little water, and the amount of fibers you can extract from it is way higher than cotton or flax.
