Find your used Freezer online! Facebook Marketplace is great

As a rule of thumb - don’t pay more that $1 per Litre for used.

Purchase: Outdoor Timer, heavy duty, weatherproof, 24hr $20.89 @ Bunnings

This timer can be programmed to come on at set times during the day/night. We will use it to regulate the freezers temp.

Purchase: Waterproof sealant. A small bottle like this has its own dispenser (handy if you don’t have a caulking gun) $11.90 @ Bunnings

Used to seal all internal seams inside freezer

Note: Buy qty 2 if you have a larger freezer

Purchase: Thread Seal Tape

Used to wrap the drain plug in bottom of freezer, to improve water tightness

Purchase: Pool thermometer

Position your freezer Remember, if you have a leak or need to drain your bath it is better outside

Clean  Use household cleaner to give it a good clean out.

Seal all internal corners.

It is better to use too much sealant than not enough....

Use a wet soapy finger to smooth sealant into corners.

Remove drain plug. Wrap 3-5 laps with the thread sealant tape. Refit plug.

Wait 24-48 hours for sealant to cure. Refer to sealant instructions

Rinse and test.

Rinse inside of freezer (residues left from cleaning products). Fill with approx 25mm of water

Give it 30mins to hold water in the base.

IF no leaks, remove plugs and drain rinse water

IF it leaks...... Drain and go back to step 8

Refit drain plug

Fill the freezer with water.

Stop approx 1 hand width from the top. (Water level will raise when you get in, and you don’t want it to overflow)

We are using tank water, so it is a little discoloured.....

Add the temperature gauge

Set timer.  Rotate dial until Timer arrow reflects current time of day (4:39 pm when I set)

We do this so the timer know when is day/when is night

Understand how to program timer

Use you thumb to pop some of the black segments up, each one represents 30mins.

If UP, this is OFF. If DOWN, this is power ON.

For now, leave all DOWN, we want full power for the next 48hrs to cool the water

Plug freezer lead into timer, then timer into power outlet

When power is turned on, you should hear the freezer start. (It makes a humming noise)

Wait approx 24hrs for water to cool

If you are impatient.....add ICE!

Now that the water is cold, set the times you want the freezer to come on.

Iam starting with 1hr at midnight, and 1hr during the middle of the day.

If I want it warmer, I will reduce the hours. If I want it cooler I will increase the hours.

Be SAFE - Unplug freezer before getting in

Cold enough?.......yep! Temp below zero!

Get in.

Don’t imagine being warm, just be cold.
