  • If there is a normal or slightly raised temperature (38.5-39.5)

  • The calf is 5-30 days old

CORONA VIRUS Usually between 5 - 30 days of age and often occurs with rotavirus. Can cause respiratory signs just like Salmonella. Spread from cow shit and calf to calf.

  • If there is no temperature rise.

  • The calf is older 2 weeks plus

  • The calf is straining to pass faeces

  • Mob effect usually COCCIDIA is a likely diagnosis

COCCIDIA Usually occurs from 1 - 2 weeks of age up to several months. Takes three weeks from ingestion to shedding lifecycle. Most cases are subclinical but stress and overwhelming loads will cause blood scours.

Only Salmonella will respond to antibiotics! But if you don't get a diagnosis or are unsure use antibiotics. Treat with Trisoprim. And pain relief from non steroidals.
