<p>Make sure you don’t mistake teat sealants for mastitis.
Sealants are often still in the teat canal at the first milking ( and longer if they haven’t been applied correctly ).
Sealants are bright white usually and the flecks don’t crumble when you roll them between your fingers. They feel plastic.</p>

Ensure you check all four quarters even if you find mastitis in one quarter.

<p>At a minimum wash and disinfect your hands after you have found a mastitis case.
You need to use a 70% mixture of methylated spirits that stays on your gloves for a MINIMUM of 30 seconds.
Best practice is to change your gloves.</p>
