This process outlines the safe and efficient unloading and loading of goods at the Despatch area of the OFP Rocklea site. It details the responsibilities of Drivers, Strappers, and Forklift Operators.

Once cleared by the Despatch Office, the Driver must reverse the trailer into the allocated bay, park the vehicle, turn off the engine, and ensure the park brake is applied before exiting the vehicle.

The Driver must prepare the trailer sets for the Forklift Operator's unloading/loading process by opening curtains, sliding gates, and loosening and removing all restraints.

<p>Once the trailer is prepared for the Forklift Operator, the Driver must remove the keys from the truck ignition and hang them on the Driver Safety Zone key board.</p>

The Rocklea site enforces a total exclusion zone in and around trailers while the forklift is operational.

Wheel chocking of the prime mover is an additional safety precaution that can be implemented.

The Forklift Operator must conduct a drive-around inspection of the heavy vehicle, checking for any obvious damage or defects.

The Forklift Operator is responsible for enforcing the trailer exclusion zone during the unloading and loading process..

The Forklift Operator is responsible for reporting any load shifts or unrestrained loads to the Shift Supervisor.

Where possible, loading should begin from the front of the trailer (headboard) and proceed towards the rear. This method, known as block loading, involves placing the load without gaps and is the preferred and safest way to load.

The Forklift Operator may request the Driver or Strapper to assist with securing gates, curtains, or freight. However, the forklift must be parked with the handbrake engaged or moved away from the loading bay to ensure pedestrian safety, which is only permitted under the control of the Forklift Operator.

Once authorised, the Driver or Strapper may prepare the trailer for the next steps for the Forklift Operator by moving the gates and curtains. At the Rocklea site, all pallet rows must be restrained. During this process, no forklifts are permitted to enter the area.

<p>Standing on trailer decks and throwing the buckle end of webbing restraints is NOT ALLOWED on site. Platform ladders are available for the correct placement of webbing restraints.</p>

Once loading is complete, the Driver or Strapper must ensure the pallets are stable, each pallet row is secured with one webbing strap, and the curtain is closed, tightened, and all buckles are clipped.

<p>Before leaving the site, the Driver must have a load manifest detailing the total mass, complete a pre-departure check confirming compliance with work/rest hours, and ensure that the load is restrained in accordance with Opal standards and the Heavy Vehicle National Law.</p>
