


Standard Hub-Piloted Rim
Standard hub-piloted rims use the bore hole to center the rim correctly. This is the most common type of rim that you will see. The wheel nuts clamp the rim to the hub
⚠️Important:
Make sure that the studs are in the center of the holes when tightening the wheel nuts. This is so that any force on the rim goes into the wheel nut, rather than into the stud, which could cause it to snap.

Standard Stud-Piloted Rim
Standard stud-piloted rims use a wheel nut like the one pictured or similar. these wheel nuts have a sleeve (green) extending out from the wheel nut (red).
This sleeve is only just smaller than the stud hole on the rim. This means that these wheel nuts can only be tighten when the rim is properly aligned.
Wheel nuts like the one pictured are for dual assemblies. the sleeve is longer so that it locates both the outer and inner rims correctly.
⚠️Important:
Do not force these wheel nuts. If they are not going in, it is most likely that the rims are not aligned properly. If you force them it can cause the sleeve to bite/cut into the rim, damaging it.

Split Ring Rim
A split ring rim consists of two parts, the man rim and a split locking ring.
It is important when fitting the tyre, that the lock ring is properly seated. If it is not properly seated, you risk it flying off and the tyre exploding while inflating.

Dayton Style Rims
The name Dayton refers to the brand that popularized rims that used this wedge wheel nut system.
Dayton style wheel assemblies have the spokes on the hub rather than in the rim.
To fix the rim to the hub, Dayton style assemblies use a wedge that is forced in between the rim and the spokes by a wheel nut.
⚠️Important:
The wedges have had a lot of force driving them in, to fix the wheel tightly. This means that they exploded outwards when the rim is released. To safely handle this, only release all the wheel nuts a little bit, and then tap the wedges with a hammer. They will pop out with a bang, and will be caught by the wheel nuts. You can then take the wheel nuts and wedges completely off and remove the wheel.

Two Piece Split Rim
These rims are made of two half sections that bolt together to form a complete wheel.

It is important to remember when fitting the rim, that the bolts holding the rim together must be torqued before inflating and installing on the vehicle.

Tube Rim
A tube rim is a rim that is made to fit a tube.
Identifying features:
Flat Center:
Tube rims have a flat center e.g. no drop center. This is so that the tube sits nice and uniform.
Valve:
The easiest way to identify a tube rim is by the valve slot. The rim will have a long rectangular valve slot that the valve it pushed through when fitting the tyre.
