It's critical for calf health calves receive close to 10% of body weight as close to within the first 12 hours of life. 20 kg = 2 L 30 kg = 3 L

With twice a day pick up this is easy you just tube calves at pick up.

With once a day pick up. In the late afternoon go and tube any calf in the paddock so that by morning when they are well past 12 hours of age they have already been tubed. Calves born overnight can be tubed at pick up.

Check the end of the tube is smooth and not damaged. Using a damaged tube could cause harm to the calf's throat.

Back calf into a corner between your legs.

Don't bend the neck right up. Keep it relatively straight.

Feel the windpipe in the neck so you know what normal feels like.

Gently push the tube past the tongue and down the throat. YOU SHOULD NEVER FORCE IT.

The tube should go all the way in.

Feel the neck again and you should now feel "two tubes". The wind pipe and the stomach tube to the left.

It's now safe to feed the milk.

When finished gently remove the tube.
