How to test colostrum for collecting milk to tube feed new born calves

Collect the refractometer from the lunch room

Step 2 of 6

Go to the freshly calved cows on the platform

Step 3 of 6

Hand strip the cow and when milk is flowing put a squirt on the refractometer screen

Step 4 of 6

Hold the refractometer up to the light and look through the lenz

Step 5 of 6

<p>Look for where the line where white changes to blue in the lens, and look at the scale of numbers on the left hand side. If the milk measures above 22 then milk the cow into a test bucket.
If the.milk is below 22 then the cow gets.milked into the calf milk vat</p>
