Cow shed start up

Check the yard. Is it set for where you want the cows to go?

Set up filter sock

Filter socks are on wall beside gloves

Make sure filter in folded down and bungs secure x2

There should be no gaps between bung and filter

Put Filter in the filter holder - making sure the sides of the filter sock don’t get damaged when putting in.

Put the top of the filter holder on and tighten. Ensure a good even seal

Turn on milk cooler x 2

Turn on wash down pump and water Canon Note – cooler pump always stays on

Vat valve operation

I am starting milking so will open vat valve

Close drain point below vat handle

Make sure vat seal is on correctly and door is shut

Make Sure the vat outlet is closed

Make your way into centre of platform

Close middle drain point

Turn on auto milkers

Check auto milker gauge. This should be in green. If in red do not start milking

Wet down the Inside of the cow shed. This will make clean up easier at the end of milking

<p>Check farm water tank level. Important this is full before milking starts.
If it is half or below let everyone in the team on farm know - there is a leak on farm</p>

Insure that the inshed feeding is turned onto auto - this is located on wall by red roller door

Insure milkhub screen is working on cups on – If you push a button on the keypad this should start the screen up.

Make sure teat sprayer is full and the teat spray room.

You are now ready to start milking.

To turn on the cowshed turn the vacuum pump switch to “variable vacuum”

Cups should now all pull up ready for milking.

It’s good practice once one round of cows is on and milking to check a few things.

Any milk leaks from filter sock or vat will flow under you feet in this drain on cups on - Keep an eye under your feet on the first round of milking.

If the vat is empty. The refrigeration will need to be turned on.This is located outside the cow shed in front of the vat.

Always use REF1. Only turn on Vet when some milk is in. E.g. after the first 60 cows milking

This is above the filter sock. -It shows the vat temp. -Inlet temp (temperature of milk going into vat) -if the agitator and chiller are working

This gives you a quick overview to see if things are working in the cow shed

A few other things to check on the first round of milking

Is the teatsprayer operating?
Is the inshed feed dispensing feed?
Are the cows exiting the cowshed as they should?
