It is important all mastitis cases are sampled so if we run into issues we can go back and see what bacteria we are dealing with.

This must be done hygienically otherwise you will get a mixed growth and the sample will be worthless.

Always wear clean ,dry gloves.

Firstly spray teat or teats with an iodine teat spray, wait 30 seconds

Wipe the teat end like this. drag a new piece of wipe across.

Don’t just rub like this. All you do is smear the contaminated teat end.

Undo the sample container and hold cap like this. DON'T put the cap down.

Squirt milk backwards into the container like this. DON'T hold the container under the teat.

Cap and lable container, culture onto DairySmart mastitis test plate, then place plate into sealed plastic bag for incubation.
