Melchizedek Priesthood ordination procedure

These are the steps to be completed to successfully advance a male member to an elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Step 1 of 9

Bishop interviews prospective elder and refers the individual to the stake president for a worthiness interview.

Step 2 of 9

Stake presidency receives an email notification of the submission of a name for advancement.

Step 3 of 9

Executive secretary schedules interview with the candidate.

Step 4 of 9

Stake president interviews the individual.

Step 5 of 9

Stake president recommends the individual to the high council. The high council sustains the proposed name for advancement.

Step 6 of 9

<p>After a name is sustained in high council, the high councilor assigned to the ward / branch presents the name of the individual for sustaining in sacrament meeting.</p>

After sustained in sacrament meeting without any opposition, the high councilor oversees the ordination of the individual.

Step 8 of 9

<p>The high councilor reports to the stake clerk once the ordination is complete. If the person who ordains the individual is not the person's father or a member of the stake, note the ordainer's record number (000-0000-0000) on his temple recommend. It is needed to record the event.</p>
