Equipment Needed

  • Buggy – to tow the trailer

  • Trailer – to transport the umbrella base plate stillages

  • Winch – for lifting the umbrella base plates

  • Forklift – for loading the stillage onto the trailer

  • Umbrella Base Plate Stillage – for storing and moving umbrella base plates

  • Umbrella Tops - to be placed in the tray of the trailer

2
Step 2 of 16

Position Buggy

Drive the buggy into place in front of the trailer.

3
Step 3 of 16

Connect Trailer to Buggy

  1. Raise the trailer coupler above the tow ball.

  2. Lift the coupler handle.

  3. Position the trailer so the coupler aligns with the ball.

  4. Lower the coupler onto the tow ball.

  5. Drop the coupler handle to secure it.

  6. Rotate the jockey wheel until it locks in place.

4
Step 4 of 16

Pick Up Stillage

Using a forklift with a spotter, lift the umbrella base stillage.

Important: do not extend the tynes far past the stillage. If the tynes stick out too far forward, they may hit the winch mast, causing damage or creating a safety hazard.

5
Step 5 of 16

Lower Stillage onto Trailer

  • Use a spotter at all times.

  • Lower slowly and with control.

  • Take care not to contact the winch mast during lowering.

Important: The trailer must be connected to the buggy before lowering the stillage to ensure stability and prevent movement.

6
Step 6 of 16

Connect Winch to Base Plate

  1. Loosen the mast lock.

  2. Rotate the mast into the correct position.

  3. Lower the winch chain to the base plate.

  4. Re-tighten the mast lock to secure the mast.

  5. Attach the chain’s eye bolt to the base plate.

7
Step 7 of 16

Prepare to Drive

Before departing, check the following:

  • Stabilising legs are fully raised.

  • Trailer jockey wheel is raised and secured.

  • Coupler handle is fully dropped and locked onto the tow ball.

Drive to Site

  • Drive at a slow, controlled speed

  • Turn slowly to prevent load shift or tipping.

  • Avoid bumpy surfaces

  • Do not drive across slopes; stick to level surfaces to maintain stability.

9
Step 9 of 16

Parking at Site

  • Position the buggy as close as possible to the final location where the base plate will be placed.

  • Align the trailer so the winch side is next to the drop-off location for easy unloading.

10
Step 10 of 16

Lift Base Plate

  1. Raise the plate above the stillage.

  2. Loosen mast lock, rotate mast, then re-tighten mast lock.

11
Step 11 of 16

Lowering Technique

  • One hand on handle, one hand on brake.

  • Release brake and slowly rotate wheel.

DO NOT:

  • Put fingers or hands between wheel spokes.

  • Release brake without controlling the wheel.

12
Step 12 of 16

Lower Base Plate

Safely lower the base plate onto the ground next to the trailer.

13
Step 13 of 16

Detach the Base Plate

  1. Unscrew the eye bolt from the base plate.

  2. Raise the winch.

  3. Rotate the mast to the next base plate.

14
Step 14 of 16

Attach Spigot

Remove a spigot from the stillage and attach it to the base plate

15
Step 15 of 16

Roll Into Final Position

  1. Place feet on edge of base plate and bend knees.

  2. Grab spigot with both hands.

  3. Tilt onto edge and roll into place.

  4. Lower gently.

16
Step 16 of 16
