Step 1 of 12A dropout fuse is used for high voltage distribution, simplest form of protection. I can open this the same as what would happen if the fuse blew. And if the fuse blows, your dropout fuse would come down like this.

Step 2 of 12So that's isolating using a dropout fuse, and then I can actually take the dropout fuse out of its holder.

Step 3 of 12To replace the fuse, you need to undo the end cap and remove that.

Step 4 of 12The fuse is actually inside the cardboard tube with a long lead going down.

Step 5 of 12And when you replace a fuse, you need to replace it with the same size.

Step 6 of 12The new fuse will go back in, feeding into the fuse tube.

Step 7 of 12Undo the end cap up securely, and this part here secures back there.

Step 9 of 12Undo up securely, and then cut off any excess length at the end before replacing the fuse into the dropout fuse holder.

Step 10 of 12Okay, to replace a dropout fuse, using a hot stick and insulated gloves, you would lift the replacement dropout fuse up, slot it into position, and then move the stick down the lower part.

Step 11 of 12Push the dropout fuse up to about the 10 or 11 o'clock position, and in a short, sharp, swift push to make contact.
