Filter Replacement Auxiliary Coolant Filter System with pressure gauge

1
Step 1 of 30

The information covered in this instruction applies to machines with either 300 or 1000 PSI systems built between November 2013 and July 2015.

How to properly put on safety glasses

2
Step 2 of 30

We'll show how to check if the system is functioning correctly and then steps you through the process of replacing the ACF filter bag.

3
Step 3 of 30

To start, check if there's an issue with the coolant pressure.

Since the ACF unit is most commonly used on TSC systems, let's see how that system behaves when there's a clogged ACF filter.

4
Step 4 of 30

Activate TSC with the spindle turning slowly.

5
Step 5 of 30
After a short period, the system faults out and we see alarm 151 is generated, low pressure through spindle coolant.
6
Step 6 of 30
If you have the ACF connected to your standard coolant pump, you'll typically see reduced coolant flow at the nozzles when the filter becomes blocked up.
7
Step 7 of 30

Before checking the auxiliary coolant tank, first check that the coolant level readout on the screen shows that the tank is full.

8
Step 8 of 30

And just to make sure someone hasn't left the coolant level sensor out of the tank, visually check that there's sufficient coolant in the tank.

Yes, the tank is full.

9
Step 9 of 30

Now activate the coolant system again to pressurize the auxiliary coolant filter tank.

10
Step 10 of 30

Return to the back of the machine to check the filter gauge on the ACF tank. This will tell you whether the system is flowing freely or if it's plugged up.

11
Step 11 of 30
When the filter bag is clean, the gauge will read between 0 and -5 psi.
12
Step 12 of 30
But if the filter bag is dirty, the gauge will read from -5 to -10 psi.
13
Step 13 of 30
It's clear we have reduced coolant pressure here, so let's change the bag out.
14
Step 14 of 30

The ACF tank needs to be drained, so start by disconnecting the supply line at the pump site and direct the stream of coolant into the chip tray.

This drains the coolant in the ACF back into the main coolant tank.

15
Step 15 of 30

Next, open the four latches that secure the lid to the tank.

Remove the lid.

16
Step 16 of 30

Wait for the tank to drain.

This usually takes about 5 minutes.

17
Step 17 of 30

Remove the metal strainer and the filter bag assembly.

18
Step 18 of 30

Place the strainer into a plastic waste can while removing the filter bag.

19
Step 19 of 30
Clean any residue from the strainer and the tank lid.
20
Step 20 of 30

Then install a new filter bag into the metal strainer.

Push the bag into the recessed area below the strainer's top edge.

21
Step 21 of 30

Place the metal strainer and the filter bag back into the tank.

22
Step 22 of 30

Before reinstalling the lid, apply a thin layer of general purpose grease to the seal on the lid.

23
Step 23 of 30

Then install the lid on the tank and make sure to match the alignment marks on the tank and the lid.

24
Step 24 of 30

Then attach the four latches.

Clamping each set of opposite latches at the same time will keep the lid from caulking.

25
Step 25 of 30

Reconnect the supply line to the coolant pump and wipe away any spilled coolant.

26
Step 26 of 30
From MDI mode, activate the standard coolant system to fill the auxiliary tank.
27
Step 27 of 30

Run the standard coolant pump for about 5 minutes or until you see the tank is full.

Don't activate TSC until the tank is filled.

28
Step 28 of 30

With the tank full, activate the TSC system and check that the tank lid and other connection points are leak free.

29
Step 29 of 30

Once this checks out, the procedure is complete.
